Big Energy Week 2018

Loyal energy customers being ripped off because they don’t switch. Get help free with Big Energy Week 2018

Figures released last week by Energy UK show that 5.5m people switched energy supplier in 2017. While it’s good news that more people are engaging with the energy market Citizens Advice Derbyshire Districts is warning that too many loyal customers still are being ripped off simply because they don’t switch.

Energy use and paying for it is having a real impact on people’s lives... Our research shows that it is often pensioners and people on low incomes who are least likely to switch. This means that it’s the consumers who can least afford it who end up stuck on expensive default tariffs.

• rising costs of energy - energy is a significant household cost, putting pressure on family incomes.
• lack of access to better deals - geographical isolation or poor broadband connections and digital skills is causing disadvantage and exclusion.
• barriers to keeping a home warm - rural isolation, old heat-inefficient properties are leaving some communities struggling to heat their homes.

Our experience tells us that fuel poverty is a marker for other debt issues. By tackling it we are preventing debt crisis and pressure on other services in the future. We are investing in an extensive programme of energy advice to lift people out of fuel poverty, improve wellbeing and reduce energy arrears and debt.

To help beat the cold and cut the cost! ‘on-the-spot’ help will be offered in a special event at Tescos Alfreton Hall St, Alfreton DE55 7BT
Friday 26th January 10.00am – 4.00pm
Amber Valley MP Nigel Mills will be attending to support the campaign at 11.00am

Its one of a series of events being run across Derbyshire by the Citizens Advice Derbyshire Districts charity as part of Big Energy Saving Week Mon 22 – Sun 28 January. It’s a national campaign to help people cut their fuel bills and get all the financial support they are entitled to. Our awareness event will focus on ‘Check, Switch and Save’ - raising public awareness of how to switch energy supplier or tariff to get the best deal, access discounts and make homes energy efficient.

Our specialist advisers will be on hand to provide face-to-face advice and we’ll be running a check and switch hotspot - where people can check online and be encouraged to switch to save on their bills. Whether you have dual fuel, off gas, electric only or perhaps have no heating at all we’re here to help! There’ll be giveaways too!

This is the 7th Big Energy Saving Week and is a partnership between Citizens Advice, the Energy Saving Trust and the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy with the support of numerous organisations, charities and companies

• I/V with our Energy and Financial Capability Officer about the energy issues facing people, encouraging people to get involved with our public events, make an energy appointment and start saving ££s on their fuel bills.
