20th June 2015 to 21st June 2015 (11.00am - 4.00pm each day)
Join us to commemorate the 70th anniversary of ‘V.E. Day’ with a special 1940s themed weekend at the Midland Railway-Butterley. The historic railway Saloon no. 45000 - believed to have been used by Winston Churchill in the lead-up to ‘D-Day’ - will be on display and available for visitors to walk through. Other attractions will include steam trains running*, 1940’s re-enactors, vehicles, music and food in the NAAFI canteen. There will also be a flypast from the RAF ‘Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’ on both days (subject to operational requirements and weather conditions).
Re-enactors in 1940s dress are welcome and will be given a 50% discount on train fares (no AXIS power uniforms or regalia allowed).
The event will be spread across the Midland Railway site and centred around The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust - West Shed Museum at the Swanwick Junction site. Entrance to the West Shed Museum is free but access to the event is via train from the Midland Railway-Butterley Station.
