The Unreturning Army

COTTON GRASS THEATRE COMPANY presents THE UNRETURNING ARMY. This production weaves original material from local newspapers and parish magazines with music and the poems of Siegfried Sassoon, Wilfred Owen and others to give a glimpse of life in the Peak District villages during the Great War. It is the story of Derbyshire Dales folk like Horace Johnson from Winster, one of the unsung private soldiers, who lived through the disastrous Gallipoli campaign. It is also the story of Vera Brittain from Buxton, who went to France as a volunteer nurse. The Unreturning Army is a sad and touching, gripping yet sometimes humorous, story.
