Amadou Diagne & Group Yakar
14th February 2016 (Doors open 7:00 pm for 7:30 start )
If ever there was a show to escape a miserable spell of English weather this is it! The Amadou Diagne Band presents a colourful, energetic show featuring a mix of self-penned songs and traditional music from Senegal.
Amadou sings soulful, bluesy songs delivered with an honest intensity that reflects on the joys and hardships of life. His gorgeously honeyed vocals are accompanied by some of the UK’s top world-musicians who play guitar, bass, strings and several unusual percussive instruments from West Africa and Europe.
The band mix up-tempo numbers with soaring heart-tugging ballads that will carry you away to sunnier climes. Most of the music and songs are composed by Amadou and you can expect to hear some traditional West African songs too. The words are sung in English, French and Amadou’s native language, Wolof, and there are lots of strong rhythms through the music reflecting Amadou’s background as an accomplished percussionist.
