Derbyshire Pupils' GCSE results better than national average

Provisional results show that 57% of students in Derbyshire achieved five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C.
While just one per cent lower than 2011, this follows a widely publicised national decline in top level grades for the first time since GCSEs were introduced 24 years ago.

Nationally, examination boards are reporting falls in the proportion of GCSEs awarded at least a C grade in the core subjects of English, maths and science. The fall is particularly pronounced in English.

Taken overall, Derbyshire’s results are again expected to show the county’s pupils have at least matched, and generally beaten, results across most of the key national benchmarks.

Councillor Mike Longden, Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Many Derbyshire schools have shown improved performance and there have been many outstanding results for schools and individual pupils.

“I’d like to congratulate students, parents, governors and county council staff for their wonderful efforts and success."
